Question: Why is Datawav Wireless Internet the best choice?
Answer: Datawav Wireless Internet uses private frequencies to transmit data to your home or office. Unlike other ‘wireless Internet’ providers, we have approval by the FCC to broadcast at higher power. Since we are licensed, Datawav Internet customers will not be subject to interference, which can drastically decrease speeds or interrupt service. And since we're wireless, we can provide high speed Internet in town AND in the country - we don't need copper phone lines or fiber cable to deliver the service!

Question: Do I need a phone line?
Answer: No, the Datawav Wireless Internet service is “always on” and runs across our privately licensed Wireless network, then out to the Internet via multiple fiber runs. Because the connection from your computer to the Internet is over our Wireless network, you will not need a phone line.

Question: Can I use Datawav Wireless Internet at my business?
Answer: Datawav Wireless Internet is great for home users, students, home offices, small offices and folks who want to telecommute. It is a shared Internet service however, not a dedicated, business type of connection. If you have a large office network, VPN or dedicated circuit requirements, or need to host a website or a server, we have other options that will work better for you.

Question: I have an old cable modem. Can I use that?
Answer: Possibly. Datawav supports 2 models of modem: the Motorola Model SB5100 Surfboard Modem and the Motorola Model SB900 Gateway Modem/Router. These two modems are tested and proven to be compatible for operation on the Datawav networks. (Pricing depends on model.) There is still an activation fee of $50 for internet service.

Question: What are your system requirements?
Answer: Our system requirements are as follows:

  • You will need at minimum, an Ethernet connection on your computer. If you do not have an Ethernet card or connection currently, you can purchase one, which is easy to install yourself (or we can do install it for you), from stores such as Staples or OfficeMax for about $10.
  • You can also use an Ethernet to USB adapter, if you have a USB port on your computer. These devices are also available at low cost from most office supply and electronics stores.
Question: Will Datawav install my Ethernet card for me?
Answer: Yes! We offer this service and have qualified technicians to help you with this. Datawav can also offer support for other computer repairs, upgrades, and networking needs.

Question: Is the Datawav Internet service secure?
Answer: There is an inherent level of security in that Datawav utilizes private frequencies and varied modulation schemes for transmitting your Internet data. Then, the Datawav modems use encryption keys to encode the data being sent both ways over our private wireless network. If you require end-to-end encryption, firewalls or other security options, please contact one of our technical support representatives for suggestions. For other features, such as parental controls, you can easily install equipment such as the Belkin 4-Port Cable/DSL Gateway Router yourself and add these features; or consult a networking expert for more information. And, please refer to this page for a list of equipment approved for use with Datawav Internet.

Question: How many computers can I hook up?
Answer: In order to connect multiple computers, you will need a router or hub. Please contact one of our sales associates to help you determine the best solution for your home or business. For a list of approved equipment that works with our system, please refer to the question "I have an old cable modem. Can I use that?"

Question: Are speeds guaranteed?
Answer: All services provided are ‘best effort’ and ‘burstable.’ Burstable means that if bandwidth is available, your speeds will “burst” (exceed) above your purchased speed as well.
